They were used for shuting duties at yards around Queensland and saw occasional use on short-distance freight services. This units started withdrawals in the 1980s due to the closure of many goods yards and longer trains. Many of the class have been sold for further use on Queensland sugar cane railways, SECV Railway in Victoria, Mount Isa Mines (MIM), and to Malaysia and Vietnam.
